NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

A Failure To Plan. . .

. . . is a plan to fail. Annoying, but true. I've been distracted, and I need to utilize this blog to keep me at least halfway focused. Therefore, here is my plan for the rest of March:

Read: Book III of The Faerie Queene
Read: Catherine Carmier by Ernest J. Gaines
Read: Day by Elie Wiesel
Read: Survival In Auschwitz by Primo Levy
Read: The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy by Laurence Stone
Listen To: Teaching Company lecture on Tristam Shandy
Read: Chapters 3 & 4 from The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative
Read: Chapter 2 from Writing About Literature

There. Now I have all of you to demand an explanation if I slack off. :-) It's not too demanding being as there are only about two weeks left of the month, and my T-Wolves will be demanding a chunk of my attention with the NBA season winding down. Once that is over (April 15 for us), it's gloves-off for my learning plan!

Feel free to comment or ask questions about anything I'm doing or reading for my Lifelong Learning Project (temporary name until I come up with something clever). Interaction with classmates is an important component of the educational experience! :-)

Happy Friday, All!

Oooh, make sure you let us know what you think of "Day." I had to read it in highschool and thought it was incredible. Very deep, and very emotional. Hope you enjoy it.

By the way, I am SUPER behind on all the reading I need to get done by the end of March. February just went by too fast!

Wow, don't burn yourself out on reading!

Veronica ~ I will, for sure! I'm planning to blog about every book I read this year. I read Night and Dawn and loved them both, so I have every reason to believe this one will be just as good. Glad to hear you loved it! (And Feb. did zoom by waaayy to fast!)

Ladytink ~ LOL! I don't think that's even possible. Peter would back me up on that statement. :-)

Wow, that's pretty ambitious for a couple of weeks. It looks like we may be doing some of the same Teaching Company classes. I'm really enjoying them. Happy Reading!

Lisa ~ Three of the four books are really short, so it isn't as crazy as it looks. I'm so glad you're enjoying the Teaching Company courses!! Which one are you currently listening to?

That's a very ambitious list! I'm curious about your learning plan. Since I'm fairly new here, I'll have to check some old posts.

I used to be more of a mood reader, but since I started blogging, I find that having a reading plan really helps me. I have a detailed plan for this month, a more flexible one for the next three months, and then a much more general "I want to read this by the end of the year" plan.

Good luck with your goals!

I admire your reading plan, Lezlie! what is the ultimate goal - is this for a course, or just books you feel you ought to read?

JoAnn & Susan ~ Thanks! A couple of the books are really short, so if I settle in a bit, it should be no problem. I have some new readers since I started all this, so I'll post over the weekend to explain a bit more what I'm doing. In a nutshell, I'm experimenting with providing myself a "self-directed home college exerience" using online tools, audio courses, and, of course, lots and lots of books! I'm still working out the planning bugs, so the methodology is pretty fluid at the moment. :-)

Ruth ~ That's a great technique! I'm finding if I have no plan, I get to scattered, but if I have too much planned, I can't stick to it. I need to find a happy medium like that.

Wow! I'd say that's a lot for 2 weeks, and I will be truly impressed if you mange it all. Meanwhile, I am woefully behind in the FQ and must get back to it.

Emily ~ I think a lot of us have lost steam on The Faerie Queene. I'll probably take that break from it in the month of April, ironically National Poetry Month. :-) I'll read some other poetry for that.
