NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Chuck Palahniuk

I am fascinated by Chuck Palahniuk's ability to take characters and circumstances that I would normally abhor and turn them into something humorous and sympathetic despite my disgust. In an effort to discover what it is about his lovable losers that keeps me wanting to go back for more, I am going to be reading all his novels. This is my list to keep track of my progress:

Fight Club
Survivor
Invisible Monsters
Choke
Lullaby
Diary
Haunted
Rant
Snuff
Pygmy

The ones I've read will be linked to my post about the book. I won't be getting to the whole list immediately, but I'll be picking away at it between everything else.

You know I love bibliography lists! I'm trying to keep track o all of my favorite authors, but I don't have all of them listed yet.

Although Palahniuk is a fellow Portlander, I can't say that he is one of my favorites. Maybe after I read a couple of your reviews, I will change my mind.

Rose City Reader ~ I know you do! Your posts reminded me that I needed to get a few more of mine on the board! :-) I have a hard time recommending Palahniuk to people with Choke and Snuff being my only examples, but I'm hoping to find others that would show his style without freaking a new reader out. :-)

Good luck. I've read Lullaby, and Fight Club is on my list. I didn't know what he looked like, so thanks for the pic.

Charley ~ Lullaby has been highly recommended to me, and I have Fight Club here also. That one is supposed to be great! I'm not sure how recent the pic is, but it was a good one! :-)

His books are disturbing, but good. I've only read Haunted and Diary so far, but I plan on reading the others at some point. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on these.

Anna ~ Which one of those did you like the best?

You know, that's a hard one. Haunted was gruesome at points and just plain disturbing overall. It reminded me of those horror movies where you cover your eyes, but you peek anyway. I couldn't stop reading it, though every part of me was telling me to. That's the only book I've ever read that made me feel like I was going to throw up. Diary, what I can remember of it anyway since I read it pre-blog, was creepy in a paranormal way. I found it hard to put down because I wanted to try to figure out the whole mystery. Not sure if that helps at all.
