by Jonathan Kellerman
The bodies of three prostitutes and a piano teacher are found in a protected marsh, all missing their right hands, and Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis are on the case in Bones, Kellerman's 23rd Alex Delaware book.
I was skeptical when this book came out only five months after the previous Delaware book. That always looks suspicious to me, like a throw-away to finish out a publishing contract or something. And for all I know, that's what this is. Whatever the reason we lucked into a quick addition to the series, it turns out that it's pretty good. Not as meaty as some of the others, but it gave me a quick fix and will hold me over until the next installment is ready. If you're not already a follower of child-psychologist-turned-police-consultant Alex Delaware and his friend, L.A. detective Milo Sturgis, I doubt this is the book that will turn you into a one. If you are, it's a nice appetizer while you wait for the main course.
Those of you who, like me, need to read their series books in order, will want to start with When the Bough Breaks.
NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)
Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

I haven't read any of those books, but you've certainly piqued my interest. I would want to start with the first book, of course.
Bermudaonion ~ It's a really good series. Even with 23 books, there haven't been any that I thought were bad.

Don't think I've heard of these before but it does sound interesting. I'm one of those that have to read a series in order too :o)
Ladytink ~ I'm obsessive about it. It drives me nuts to read a book and find out it's the middle of a series.
