NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

RAT: Wrap-Up

That was so fun! I didn't read as much as I would have liked to, but this time around was a last minute decision and a bit of an experiment. Now I know just what to expect for next time! I'd love to be one of the folks who makes the whole 24 hours in the future.

I ended up turning out the reading light at midnight. I honestly have no idea how many hours I actually read or blogged. I was surprised at how much time the blogging took. I'd sit down to check how everyone was doing and leave some cheerleading comments, and the next thing I knew, it was time for my own hourly update! That's something I'll have to work on for the next one if I actually want to make some headway in my reading.

I finished up David Sedaris' Naked.
I read one short story, during which I fell asleep. Oops.
I read Paul Auster's Man In The Dark in its entirety.
I read about 1/3 of Andy Taylor's Wild Boy.
Page count total: 352

Not too bad. I can't wait for the next one now that I have a number to beat. Nothing like setting the bar nice and low! :-)

Congratulations and great job to everyone who arranged and participated in the Read-A-Thon! It was an honor and just a blast to share an entire day with all of you who share this love of books!

I just may have to give this a try in April.

Great job on your first time out, Lezlie! Especially being a last minute decision!

I really need to read Naked. That might be my next book so I can do a read-a-thon craziness detox. lol

Bermudaonion ~ It's highly recommended! :-) If I don't have a show or a basketball game, I'm in for sure.

Andi ~ Thanks! And you'll like Naked. It would definitely be a good wind-down book. I used it to clear my mind after Devil's Brood.

I get really caught up in the blogging as well. i just get so excited seeing everyone's updates I can't help myself from commenting...eeks.

You did great for your first time and it is easier when you know what to expect.

And thanks so much for popping by and leaving such encouraging comments. :)

I agree it was a fun time! I didn't do as well as I thought but now I know what to expect for next time. I loved reading your updates. Thanks!

I was also surprised how long the blogging took! I'd sit down to post an hourly update, and then all of a sudden, *poof*, twenty minutes would be gone.

Trish ~ You're welcome! Visiting people really helped keep that "connected" feel while we were all doing what is normally such a solitary activity.

Amanda ~ Thank you! We'll both do even better next time for sure! :-)

Fyrefly ~ Me, too! I couldn't believe how the time flew.

These sounds like so much fun, but I don't think I could participate unless it occurred during a holiday! I wonder how much I could get read in 24 hours--two book is pretty impressive!

Congrats! I hope to do this in April. It sounds like a blast.

Have you read When Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris? You can try to win that book and others on my blog if not!

You did fine Lezlie. And I agree, hourly updates are just too much, especially if your feed list looks like mine.

I found out that doing them in 2 hour increments worked well. I would spend the first part of the 2 hour block visiting, commenting, and doing the challenges, and then use the remaining time to read. That way I never felt pressured to do one or the other, and it made updating easier too.

Well done Lezlie! I agree about how much time the blogging takes, I wonder what the best to organise oneself is!

Thanks for dropping by my blog. Naked was the book that made me a Sedaris fan, but Me Talk Pretty One Day is my favorite of his.

Danielle ~ It's hard not to get distracted with everyday life. I got distracted a lot! :-)

Shooting Stars ~ I hope you are able to join us in April! I have read When Engulfed in Flames, and I loved it.

J.C. ~ That did turn out to be the better plan. That's what I'll do for the next one right from the start.

Joanna ~ That's a tough one! Like J.C., I did find that when I switched to 2-hour updates I felt less harried.

Bybee ~ You're welcome! And thank you for visiting here! I'll be reading Me Talk Pretty One Day very soon. I don't think I'll be able to stay away from his writing for too long. :-)

CONGRATS! What did you think of David Sedaris? He's supposed to be really good.

Lezlie said...

Monnibo ~ Thanks! I really like Sedaris a lot. This was my second of his books, and I enjoyed them both.

Congrats Lezlie, you did well! I'm thinking of getting envolved next time around. Maybe as a cheerleader.

Lezlie said...

Teddy Rose ~ You should! If you decide to give it a try as a reader, just be casual about it. If you make the 24-hours, great! If not, it's still a blast to participate.
