NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

It Was A Beautiful Day!

And I mean that literally and figuratively.

It started out cold. I got to the trial grounds at about 7:30 am and found the tent covered in frost. Chilly, chilly out! But it warmed up quickly and turned into a perfect sunny but comfortably cool day for running with the dogs.

Only Max and I competed today. Peter went out canvassing for Obama (Good job, Sweetie!) and planned to compete tomorrow. The short version of the results are that Max Man Q'd three of his four runs, and only missed getting the fourth because of mistake I made. He was such a good boy today! And his last run was picture perfect! Exactly the kind of run that makes you say, "That's why we do this!" It's an amazing feeling when everything clicks! And he did get first place in all of his runs, but he was the only dog in his category. I like to think he'd have gotten first anyway. :-)

His hips held out great. I gave him his aspirin after the second run, and we walked a lot before, after and between runs. By the end of the day he was still walking fine and didn't appear to be uncomfortable at all. He did so well that I decided it would be irresponsible of me to bring him back and do it again tomorrow. We ended on a high note, and it's more important to sustain his health than earn more Q's this weekend. Why push our luck, right? I'd feel horrible if he ended up limping because I let him push too much. We'll only do one day of trialing on weekends from now on, and that should help keep him going strong longer. Peter decided since it's supposed to be really cold and rainy all day tomorrow, Skye will stay home, too. Skye won't mind. He's liking herding better anyway.

So, that's it for this weekend. Max did a great job, and I might get to actually read! No, seriously!! :-)

Literary Feline & Eva ~ Thank you! I just need to get my house in order, then it's on the couch with Devil's Brood. I think the book grows new pages daily. :-)

Congrats to you and Max for such a good day! It sounds like it went so well and you had fun. I agree that it's better to preserve his health than push him. Plus he had a good day, he sounds like he was one happy puppy and it's better to leave it like that. It's heartbreaking to watch them limp or be in pain.

I hope you get some reading in. I finished the book I was reading yesterday and I have one I plan on finishing today. I feel as though I might be making some progress. lol.

Kara ~ Thanks! Me, too. It took a huge load off my mind.

Dar ~ Thank you! Your right on that is so hard to see it, so I'm thrilled he came through it unscathed.

I went to Borders today just to look around, and I think my brain almost exploded. There is just too much I want to read!!!

Sounds like an awesome day. It sounds like your taking really good care of Max. I'm glad you haven't retired him completly, because I know how much you both enjoy doing this together! I use to give Robbie massages when his arthrits flaired up and that seemed to help. At least I know he enjoyed it.

Teddy ~ Thank you. Me, too. I'd be mostly sad for Max if he had to retire completely. He loves it so much. I massage his hips when he lets me. Some days he just wants hugs. :-)
