NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

New Purchases

Yeah, I'm still at it. Someone's gotta keep the bookstores in business. It might as well be me. :-)

First up, the geek in me had to have Wishful Drinking by Princess Leia . . . I mean, Carrie Fisher. Love the cover!! This is Carrie Fisher's memoir and I'll be suspending all other reading this weekend for it.

Carrie Fisher's book was part of the "Buy One, Get One 50% Off" promotion, so I had to pick a second one from the table. Bummer, huh? :-) I opted for the paperback edition of 2666 by Roberto Bolano. I have no idea when I'll actually get to this but it's one I've been wanting to purchase, so there you go. Excuse provided!

I picked up Marcel Proust's Search for Lost Time: A Reader's Guide to The Remembrance of Things Past by Patrick Alexander because I do plan to finish The Remembrance of Things Past someday. I read Swann's Way back when I first started this blog and enjoyed it quite a bit, but I've been intimidated to continue with the series. This is supposed to be informative and funny, and that's a great combination. I'll take that, thank you!

And last but not least I picked up a little hardcover called The 100 Greatest Poems of All Time because it was only $5.99 and why not, right? We could all use a little more poetry in our lives even if we don't really get it. ;-)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Andi ~ I laughed out loud when I saw it sitting there. I can't wait to start it tonight! The Dashwood sisters and their sea monsters will just have to wait. :-)

Oh my goodness, I am soooo jealous of the Carrie Fischer memoir!!!! I so want to read that one! And the 2666. I've been wondering if I have the fortitude for that one.

And you're killing me with the Proust, you do know that, don't you? :P

Michele ~ I dedicate all my Proust and Faulkner endevours to you! :-) I'm a little scared of 2666 also, but I keep hearing such great things about it that I know I have to at least try.

It's an addiction, plain and simple.

Bermuda Onion ~ It is. But I refuse to seek help. :-)

I'm impressed with your Proust goal. I will get there someday. Getting closer.

Rebecca ~ It's currently wishful thinking, but, you know, someday . . . I'd love to see a post from you on it! It would most likely be much more informative that my, "Wow! That was cool!" that I'm anticipating. :-)

Good luck with 2666. I have almost finished reading it, and am still not sure if it is worth the effort - I'll let you know soon! I recommend reading it very slowly. One part a month for five months has worked very well for me. Enjoy your new books!

Farmlane Books ~ I've been keeping up on your posts for 2666, and I'm anxiously awaiting your final verdict. :-) I've seen it fall both ways in various blog reviews, so I know I'll have to see for myself eventually.

Joanna ~ I hear you. I'm a little scared of it, but I'm fascinated by it, too. At least if it's here I can pick at it a little at a time if need be. That is, whenever I finally get to it. :-)
