NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

New Purchases

The Paris Review Interviews, I
The Paris Review Interviews, II
The Paris Review Interviews, III

I've been watching my Teaching Company DVDs for The Art of Reading, and the instructor highly recommended these books of author interviews originally printed in The Paris Review. I couldn't resist when I saw the lists of authors included: Graham Greene, William Faulkner, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, Kurt Vonnegut, Martin Amis . . . the list goes on! There is also a fourth volume due out this October. I bought all three of the first volumes, and lucky me! Volume II has a copyright date of 2007, so guess what I get to read to finish off my Countdown Challenge! Excellent!

I also bought Nick Hornby's Housekeeping vs. the Dirt and Shakespeare Wrote for Money, because I read The Polysyllabic Spree over the weekend and LOVED it! I'll be posting more of my thoughts on that this week.

Just a reminder -- There are a couple more weeks to get a discount on that beautiful reader's companion A Life Well Read. Again, I have no connection to the product other than I reviewed it and think it's great! I have no monetary stake in your potential purchase. If you haven't heard about A Life Well Read, you can see my post here.

Have a great week, everyone!

Paperback Reader ~ They are very pretty! I plan on reading the Graham Greene interview tonight, so I'll get more of an idea what they're like.

I haven't heard of The Paris Review Interviews but what a great cast of authors!

I've been meaning to pick up some of Hornby's nonfiction. I've heard they're fantastic--hope you enjoy!

Trish ~ That's what got me interested. I couldn't believe the names when I looked into purchasing them. I feel like I'm sitting on a treasure trove of great information!

The Polysyllabic Spree was wonderful! I'm sure the other two will be just as good, since they're all in the same vein. I need to pick up his *fiction* now! Have you read any of it? Any recommendations? High Fidelity seems to be the big one.

I haven't renewed my subscription to Paris Review in ages, but I always loved their interviews. I hope you enjoy the collections.

I had no idea The Paris Review even came in books, but the list of authors -- Wow! Graham Greene is a special favorite of mine. I've definitely put them on my wish list.
I just discovered your blog and look forward to following it. I like the range of topics you cover and your writing style. Maybe next year I can join one of your challenges.
BTW, I'm very sorry your cat died. I've had my Minnie for 14 years, and I lost her last week. I know how it hurts.
I have a blog where I muse about things I read. Your welcome to visit it if you like. www.abookwithaview.blogspot.com

Serena ~ I've barely dipped into them, but I think I'm in for a lot of great reading! Thanks!

Teri ~ Thank you so much! I hope to see you here often! I'm off to visit your blog now. Hugs regarding your cat. It is so sad when we lose our fuzzy friends. :-(

I've read High Fidelity and A Long Way Down. I loved the first and didn't like the second. Of course, I also love the movie (HF) with John Cusack. I have About a Boy on the shelf but haven't had time for it yet. Love that movie too, though.

Trish ~ I'll probably end up going with High Fidelity, since every review I see of that one is great. Thanks for letting me know!
