NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Reading Notes

It's a chilly, chilly day here in Minnesota. It's -8 right now. Brrrr!

I'm still plugging away at The Faerie Queene, and I still really like it a lot. I finished Book One, Canto Eight last night, and if the description of Duessa when she is unmasked as a witch doesn't conjure up some vivid imagery, I don't know what would!

I'm about half way though How To Think About The Great Ideas, which is still very engrossing. I read "How To Think About Punishment" yesterday, which, among other things, asked this question: Should punishment fit the crime or fit the criminal? I personally think I agree with the latter. I'm just not sure how to work that out in society. If I can come up with something, I'll let you know. :-)

I began listening to Hot, Flat and Crowded yesterday. I'm six discs into it (out of seventeen) and I'm currently feeling rather hopeless about our chances of saving our planet, but I'm just sure the author will give me plenty of reasons to be optimistic by the time it's over. At least, I hope so! It's so depressing to think of the damage people are doing.

Lastly, I'm hoping to have a chance to finish up Remains of the Day today or tomorrow and have a review up quickly. Short version: Great, great book!

Happy reading, Everyone! Stay Warm!

It's cold here too Lezlie and still spitting snow. It's supposed to really warm up by the end of the week. It would be nice but then we may get rain which wouldn't be good with the still freezing temps.

Glad you're making some headway with all your reading and listening. I hope to finish up one book that I'm reading today. For now I'm blog hopping a bit and then I have to get to work.

How are the furkids? You haven't mentioned them in a while-Max ok?

OK, Pennsylvania is the tropics in comparison! Be sure to stay warm yourself, and happy reading...

I've been complaining because it's only supposed to get up to 34 here on Friday. Now, I feel guilty about it. I'm ready for summer.

Do we even live in the same country?? Well, I guess it is rather large. It is supposed to be in the upper 80s here today (87-ish). I wish I enjoyed the heat more, but tend to prefer it colder to hotter. Of course, -8 is a bit much!

Dar ~ Max is well. Thanks so much for asking! We haven't had any agility lessons for a couple of weeks, so he hasn't had any real trouble. We have a lesson Friday, so I'll have to monitor him closely. Skye and Jack are doing great, too. Jack just enjoys laying around, and Skye wants to herd sheep all the time! :-)

Katherine ~ This week is the coldest it has been all winter. I should be used to this, but I'm actually getting to be a bigger sissy every year. :-)

Bermudaonion ~ No guilt necessary! Cold is cold! I'm all for the summer thing now, too.

Terri ~ Where do you live? I'm coming for a visit! :-)

Jo-Jo ~ Your weather is probably just like ours. You stay warm up there!!

You are on FIRE! Well, except for that -8 thing. I would curl up and die.

Andi ~ Curling up in front of the fireplace works, too. :-) I hear it's supposed to be -14 tomorrow. I'm so not looking forward to that. . .

Lezlie, I'm so glad to hear the furkids are doing well. I think about them often. Skye and the sheep-lol.

lol! I live in Southern California. I have plenty of complaints about the place, but weather is generally not one of them. Weather? What weather? ;o)

Terri ~ I'm trying to decide what I'd rather have -- cold weather or earthquakes. Cold might win! :-)

Wow, okay I'll stop complaining about being 40 degrees here. Hope you're staying warm and reading lots!

Ladytink ~ Today is even worse. -20 when I got up this morning. It's supposed to be 30 on Sunday though. That will feel like a sauna! :-)
