Once again I interrupt the regularly scheduled programming for shameless self-promotion. :-) This is pretty cool though! It's the first video we've gotten of the new DIVA light show! This only scratches the surface of what it can do, but it's still pretty awesome. Enjoy!
NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)
Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Check Out The New Light Show!
Once again I interrupt the regularly scheduled programming for shameless self-promotion. :-) This is pretty cool though! It's the first video we've gotten of the new DIVA light show! This only scratches the surface of what it can do, but it's still pretty awesome. Enjoy!

A Case of Nerves
I feel like my reading consumption has slowed during September, but I have a good reason! Tonight is the debut of the solo version of the DIVA Show! I've never been a nervous performer, but we've been working like crazy programing the new light show, learning new songs and trying to remember the lyrics to old ones. It's been a lot of work but worth it. This show is extra special to me. We gave the new light show a test run when Tony and I played Labor Day Weekend, and the crowd loved it! In fact, we were told we have a better light show than Def Leppard. Nothing like wild exaggeration to feed a person's ego! :-)
Anyway, the reason I'm a little concerned about tonight is because five days ago I came down with something that left me completely unable to sing. My throat was wiped out. I panicked, of course, but with the help of some antibiotics, cold medicine and very little speaking, I think I'll be okay. I just have to pace myself. Since I doubt I will be up for the vocal gymnastics required for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (insert a very annoyed sigh here), I thought I'd post a previous performance of it for your entertainment. A little bonus track that tonight's audience probably won't get to hear. That's because you all are special! :-) Enjoy!
NOTE: The lights in this video are not the new show. I have to get some video of those for you! It's like a traveling discoteque!

On The Mend
Peter sends his sincere thanks to everyone who posted such nice comments over the last couple of days. He's feeling much, much better this morning. He says his face pretty much feels like he got hit with a baseball bat, but everything else appears to be in good working order. And Skye is much relieved that I didn't actually leave Daddy at the pound. :-) Max, however, is not sure about having to relinquish his new awesome spot on the bed.
Tonight my alter-ego is off to play Rockstar Diva again, so there won't be much reading going on until tomorrow. (The dress in our poster is slated for tonight's fashion.) So, until then, here are me and Tony to entertain you:
Have a great weekend, Everyone!

DIVA v. King James
It's no secret to readers of this blog that I'm a huge NBA fan. My Minnesota Timberwolves are far and away my favorite guys but there are a couple of others that I like a lot. LeBron James is one, which is why when I saw a video of him on YouTube singing the Bee Gee's "Stayin' Alive", it cracked me up so much. Then I thought, "Hey, I could take him on! He may be called King James, but they don't call me The Diva for nothing!" So, one on one, Me v. LeBron. I'll let LeBron go first:
Ha! I love that! I love a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. And speaking of not taking ourselves too seriously, here are me and Tony being not-too-serious at the Minnesota State Fair this past summer:
All my life they told me to sing from the diaphragm. Now I spend entire songs singing out of my nose. :-)
Have a great day, everyone!

My Friend Tony
I've talked about what I do when I'm not reading, my alter ego -- DIVA, but it occurs to me that I haven't given my partner in that endeavor anywhere near enough credit for his part. Tony has been my best friend for nearly 20 years. He's an amazing guitar player, and it is due to his musical and technological wizardry (at least, that's what it looks like to me) that I get to put on Tina Turner-like dresses and KISS-like boots and play rock star like I do. Thanks, Tony! :-)
In anticipation of our Minnesota State Fair show tomorrow, and in his honor, I share with you one of my favorite songs Tony sings during our show. We call this one, "The Nutcracker Suite". You'll hear why. . .
How cute is that?? Grown men singing silly. We just posted this plus three more new video clips on www.DivaRocksMN.com. Stop on over and check them out!
Have a fantastic holiday weekend, everyone!

DIVA at the Minnesota State Fair!
The Minnesota State Fair. I love it, but it's sad when it finally gets here, because it signals the end of summer for a whole lot of us. However, I get to sing there this year! How cool is that!?!
DIVA will be be performing at Coasters Beer Garden at the Minnesota State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 1-5 pm. If any of you happen to be in the neighborhood, stop by! I'd love to meet you in person! In the meantime, here is a short video clip of Tony and I from one of our other performances to get your toes tapping just a little bit and put you in the mood for some fun dance music: (I posted it once before when I first started this blog, so it's old hat for some of you.)
I hope to see some of you there!
