NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Reading Notes

I need to focus! There is so much I want to read and I want to read it all right now. :-) I'm going to finish out this month reading The Woman in the Dunes and The Confessions of Nat Turner and listening to The Woman in White and Misquoting Jesus. After that, I need to buckle down and make a plan for March.

I'm already finding myself completely distracted from all the challenges I signed up for and wanting to make my plans around my Teaching Company courses. I've ordered books like The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative and Norton Critical Editions of some of the books to see if I can give my personal studies even more of a "school" feel. I've decided to go with what I'm the most excited about, and if my reading challenges fall by the wayside a bit, it's no big deal. I love the challenges, because they always get me involved in some books I may have never looked at otherwise, but I'm going to try to view them in much the same way I view recommended reading lists -- as a jumping off point. I'm going to let the current take me where it may! I hope you'll hang around for the ride!

Totally unrelated, I updated the photos of Jack, Skye and Max on my blog page. Stop by and take a peek! Also, I haven't been very diligent about my blogroll. If you are a reader of Books 'N Border Collies, please let me know if a link to your blog is not included. I'll get it added right away!

Have a great day, everyone!

I know exactly how you feel! It's hard to choose what to read next because I want to read it all next.

Well, have fun! I'm actually buckling down and working on my personal challenges (Books into Disney movies and Puffin Modern classics) and even some of my other challenges as I've read a few Newbery's the past week (and a Newbery honor as well).

Oh, love the pics ;o) You could submit the study one to LolDogs.

Bermudaonion ~ If only we could read faster and still absorb it all!

Dar ~ Oops! That's embarrassing. Thanks so much for letting me know. I've got it all fixed up now. :-)

Zetor ~ We're a good influence on them. LOL!

Nymeth ~ It's almost like a panic attack sometimes, don't you think?

Ladytink ~ What are Puffin Modern Classics? I don't think I've heard of those.

I've got a couple pics of the boys that I've thought about submitting to LOLDogs. If you look real close, you can see Max has my glasses on! :-)

Love the picture updates!

I never did get around to actually joining any challenges this year. I like them for providing me with some reading goals, but I am very inclined to go off on my own reading tangents. The exception is the Japanese Literature Challenge, which I will be joining again this year.

I just checked to make sure you are on my book blog list. You are! Yay!

Terri ~ Thanks! The Japanese Lit Challenge looks really great! If I wasn't so anxious to get to my Teaching Company books, I'd add that to my challenges, too. :-)

Puffin is the "children's" book division of Penguin. Usually the Modern Classics are lesser known award winners and books that have been made into films: A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck was one (Newbery Honor), Greyfriar's Bobby by Eleanor Atkinson (two films) was another, and several Roald Dahl books too. Too bad they stopped producing them in the late 90's :(

Ladytink ~ That is too bad that they stopped. It's a bummer when you find a series that you're having so much fun with.

I broke down and bought the Teaching Company World Literature course. I haven't started it, yet, but I'm excited about it.

Lisa ~ That's great!! You have to let me know how you like it!

I'm struggling to join challenges this year because my biggest challenge is to read 100 books this year. though that hasn't stopped me from joining the classics challenge, that was because I'm planning on reading some during my 100 book read-a-thon!! :-D so I understand the need to read and to be free to read very well now! you're always funny, Lezlie, and I'll be curious to see how your reading progresses this summer once your courses are under way!

I didn't know that Max and Skye read English lit. like their mom. How sweet!

Susan ~ I have found the challenges help me reach the 100 Book goal, but it's difficult to keep to a plan if I get too many going that don't allow a lot of flexibility. The classics challenge will be great! I'm glad you decided on that one. I can't wait to see what you decide to read for it!

Teddy Rose ~ I'm trying to broaden their horizons. They're looking forward to Russian Lit later this year. :-)
