NOTICE: (Updated March 5, 2010)

Beginning December 19, 2009, Books 'N Border Collies will be posting but only intermittently while I pursue personal goals. I plan to share some reading I'm doing, but there will be no reviews. I will, however, be sharing my exploration of vegetarian cooking and the cookbooks and websites I use to educate myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Agility Trial Update: Sunday a/k/a Sometimes Life Is Hard

This weekend was an experiment and here's what I learned: I have been a lot more mentally stressed than I was willing to acknowledge these past couple of weeks, and one day of trialing on a weekend is plenty.

I got to the trail site this morning with not enough sleep, which is never good. Max and I did our first run and it was awful. He ran crazy yesterday, but this morning made yesterday look like a cake walk. I promptly took him back to our tent where I sat on the floor with him and had a completely irrational emotional breakdown. Apparently I was little more overwrought from personal issues that had been building up lately than I thought I was. I decided it wasn't fair to Max or myself to compete with him in that state of mind, so I had him scratched for the remainder of the day. After I got done sobbing onto Max's shoulder, I called Peter, who not only came to help me pack up the tent but took me out for breakfast and to the bookstore for therapy. Isn't he a good guy?

I bought some great stuff, because I needed more books for the TBR shelf. Yeah, right. :-) I really did buy some great books though, and I'll tell you all about them later. Right now, however, Max and I are going to play out in the yard to make up for our icky morning and I'm going to tell him how much I love him even when he is the devil. :-)

Poor Lezlie, you have had a lot on your plate and a big worry too boot. You needed that cry. I'm glad that Max was with you to lean on. Peter sounds like a keeper!

Next time I visit my mom in MN I want to meet you and your clan. It looks like I'll be coming sometime in November.

Bermudaonion ~ Thanks! I'm going to do just that this week. No trials, no shows, no work, no nothing but a long time out. I should be back to normal fairly quickly.

Teddy Rose ~ I did need that cry. The minor things that finally end up being the proverbial straw always seem so strange to me. Max is a good listener, and I was glad to have him there when the dam broke.

I was sad we didn't get to meet up last time you were here. It was great to at least talk to you though! We'll be here when ever you get back though, and I'll be sure we make some time.

Oh Lezlie--You sure have had a lot going on. I know it must have been hard for you to pull Max out of the competition, but it sounds like you did the right thing. It's amazing how these emotional times can take such a physical toll on your body. And it's easy to forget that you need to take care of yourself too! I'll be thinking about you.

Thank you, Jo-Jo! I'm not used to breaking down like that. It's kind of freaky! We always like to think we're tougher, you know?

I agree with the others - it sounds like a reaction from everything else going on in your life, that finally now you have some space to let some of the tension out. I'm glad you decided to go home and play with your family, instead! Don't forget to laugh as much as you can as you all heal from the stresses!

Susan ~ Thanks! I knew I made the right decision as soon as I hung up the phone. I felt so relieved! I'm already bouncing back. :-)

Hopefully next time will be better--but breakfast and a trip to the bookstore would make it much better for me, too. I haven't had a chance to comment much in the past few weeks, but I'm glad to hear that Peter's surgery went well and hopefully he'll make a speedy recovery. You'll remain in my thoughts.

Hi, Trish! I think many people trend away from the computer in the summer. Completely understandable! :-) Thanks for all the good thoughts! My downtime this week has been very helpful in putting my head back together.

Oh Lezlie, I'm sorry. YOu have had so much going on that it's no wonder now that things are settling down that it just came crashing in on you. And you know our animals really feel all that stress too. You made the right decision and there are going to be many more runs for Max. Peter's such a good guy for taking you out for breky and some retail book therapy-that is the best medicine!

Dar ~ They really do. Max wasn't himself either. We're going to just have fun at our lessons for a while and give competition a break. Book therapy is pretty much a cure-all for me, too. :-)

Sorry for your bad day. You and Max will have good ones again.

Thank you, Sandra! We had a lesson last night, and Max ran like a little champ. We were more in sync than we have been in weeks. Amazing what keeping our heads on straight can accomplish! :-)
